I have been wanting to post about some products I use for my dry hair for months. I just needed some time! This post has taken me a minute to configure all the information I wanted to share. But it will be well worth it I promise.
Surprise I have dry scalp! It gets very itchy & I live in the desert where there is no moisture so I have to use specific shampoos and conditioners. Now that being said, there’s a huge difference between having dandruff & having dry scalp. The best article I have found explaining the differences you can read it here.
Something my hair stylist also educated me on recently is that Dandruff is a bacteria so when you are using shampoos or treatments like Head & Shoulders those are specifically targeting dandruff and those symptoms. But the only thing both have in common is an itchy scalp. So if you don’t have dandruff and you’re using those products then they won’t help you and make your scalp even itchier and drier.
My stylist and I have noticed that moisturizing shampoos and conditioners especially ones that have tea tree oil is a natural remedy to help soothe dry scalp. I also have found some other products that help lock in moisture for your hair.
I have recently started using the Paul Mitchell tea tree scalp treatment. First off I love this product so much. It really has helped my scalp be itch free & soothe the irritation I have been having. This is also fairly inexpensive if you’re only using it 1 time a week it’s $18 & I got mine from Ulta.
I have not used this other brand but I just watched a review on it & I totally want to try it! This one has charcoal in it and it looks like a face scrub almost but for your hair and massaging it into your scalp and it gives a nice lather. This is a little pricey $42 & can be found at Sephora.
Masks & Oil Treatments
I haven’t used the Moroccan Oil treatment before but I have once again heard some really great things! Any type of oil treatment I have used has really helped my scalp become more nourished. It is a little more expensive at $15 & can be found at Sephora.
This has become one of my favorite masks. It is only $10 at Target & it’s a huge tub. It makes my hair so soft and shiny so combining this with a scalp treatment is the way to go. You’re locking in that moisture in your hair which is so important with the dry scalp.
Shampoo & Conditioner Suggestions
My all-time favorite shampoo & conditioner is Clear. They have always been my go to and what I always go back to. They cater to dry scalp & have a few different sub-options like for hair color, dandruff, hydration, volume, and a few others. My favs are the hydration & dandruff ones. The hydration has aloe in it which is also what we use on sunburns to keep from flaking and peeling. So using that in shampoo really helps! The dandruff one has mint in it which is really cooling on the scalp when lathered. You can find them at Walmart or Walgreens & they are $8.
Now if you’re looking for tea tree because of its properties in helping dry scalp I recommend using either Paul Mitchell or OGX also has one. I used OGX argan oil hair care & that always gives me a ton of moisture in my hair. I love Paul Mitchell’s scalp treatment so you can’t go wrong with either choice! Paul Mitchell is at Ulta or Target for $18 and OGX is at those places as well for $7.
I hope you guys enjoyed this! I’ve had fun finding a system that works best for me!
